Breed Survey Requirements.

A Breed Survey is an evaluation of the breed value of a dog for the improvement, preservation, and advancement of the breed and future reference. A Breed Survey report is carried out listing the dog s breeder, owner, D.O.B. Microchip/Tattoo number, and a two generation pedigree. The dog is measured for size, maximum 65cm for males and 60cm for females with 1cm over or under allowed for class 2. The ideal medium size is 63.5cm for dogs and 58,5cm for females, minimum size males 60cm and females 55cm. An assessment of the dog is made both standing and in motion. Included are secondary sex characteristics, expression, bones, musculature, firmness of back and ligaments, trueness of gait viewed from the front rear and side, rear drive, front reach, head, strength of jaw, and dentition, (full dentition required for a class 1). Males must be entire. All physical characteristics are listed as well as faults.

Hips BVA must not be more than 20 in total and not more than 12 on any one hip any score outside of these limits will result in a fail

Elbows BVA for a pass class 1 not more than 1, --for a pass class 2 not than 2. Any score outside of these limits will result in a fail.

If the dog has the German a stamp then A normal, A fast Normal, and nochzuglassen for both hips and elbows are the only acceptable scores.

If a dog fails either hips or elbows or both it cannot be issued with a breed survey pass. Please remember that hips/elbows are only part of the dog a score of up to 30 for me is still acceptable for breeding if female.

All Males must be haemophilia tested clear, and all dogs born after 01/01/13 must be DNA tested

The dogs stability, temperament, alertness, and gun sureness are evaluated. The Surveyor will also conduct two character tests. Dogs cannot be surveyed until they are at least 18mths of age. Upon completion of the survey the dog will gain a Class1 or Class 2 pass or a Fail.

At the end of the survey report the Surveyor will comment on your dog and may make breeding recommendations on the dog which could be helpful in the future.

Should your dog Gain a pass Class 1 or 2, the surveyor will tell you what class pass your dog has gained and you will be issued a Printed Report of your Survey and a Certificate from the GSD Breed Council, normally within 4 weeks.

N.B. NO DOG MAY BE WITHDRAWN AFTER THE SURVEYOR HAS COMMENCED ITS SURVEY (EXCEPT IN AN EMERGENCY)
